Discover the journey and milestones of the GCI Refugee Mission Program since its inception.
The GCI Refugee Mission Program began in 2011 after careful consultation with our church council and the government of Canada. In July 2012, we were officially recognized as a Sponsorship Agreement Holder (SAH), which allowed us to sponsor refugees directly through the government’s resettlement programs. In our first year, we partnered with other SAH groups and shared the five sponsorship spaces allocated to us.
At the heart of the GCI Refugee Sponsorship Mission Program is a commitment to helping refugees in practical and compassionate ways. Our mission is not to build our congregation but to extend the love and freedom of Canada to people of different faiths and denominations who are seeking refuge. While we recognize that we can only be “a drop in the bucket” in meeting the overwhelming need, we are privileged and excited to play a part in welcoming and supporting newcomers to Canada.
We are hopeful that in the future, we will have the opportunity to share testimonies from individuals and families who have been positively impacted by this mission. These stories will serve as a reminder of the difference that can be made, even in small ways.
If you are interested in supporting the GCI Refugee Sponsorship Mission—either through your time as a volunteer or through financial contributions—we would love to hear from you. Please feel free to email gcisponsorshipmission@gciottawa.ca to learn more about how you can get involved.
We deeply appreciate any help you can offer and pray that you find fulfillment in the ways you choose to give to others.
